Senior Portrait: Jasia
Senior portrait season is on! With the school year having started just a few days ago the rush is on for high school seniors to make a lasting impression in their final yearbook. We’re talking one or more images that will last for years—decades even—and serve as a powerful marker as to where one was at during this powerful formative time.
Jasia was my second Class of ’26 senior of the year and I was excited to meet her and her mom.
Skybridge at Mount Vernon
For locations we chose the Sky Bridge at Little Mountain in Mount Vernon, and then changed locations down a Iverson Beach for a beautiful sunset and following blue hour. One of Jasia’s requests was to be in water. With that in mind, Iverson Beach was the perfect place to be—it’s also a favorite spot of photographers for portrait sessions, engagements, families, couples, seniors—you name it.
I chose Little Mountain because it’s not on most people mind, and it would serve to contrast Iverson Beach.
The session really took off at Iverson Beach starting with the dramatic sunset light and clouds when we got there, so instead of heading right to the beach I decided to shoot in the field adjacent to the parking lot—I wanted to make use of the remaining sunset.
Pretty much all of the Iverson Beach session was shot with off-camera flash and a softbox on a boom pole.
Out last location, rounding out here senior portrait, was a quick session at Pioneer Park in Stanwood, WA. The intention here was to show Jasia on the pitch with a soccer ball. With a more powerful strobe my goal was to create that night time effect with the stober overpowering the sun.
All in all, this was a totally fun shoot with a great high school senior. Go Jasia!
