Portrait Day, San Rafael, January 26th

Jan 9, 2024 | Photoshoot

On January 26th my good friend and client, Annie Danberg has opened up her office and creative space for a day of portrait photography. I will be coming down from Washington State to take her portrait for a website project and she said that as long as I was here we might as well open this opportunity to others and make a day of it.

Located at 2173 Francisco Blvd. East, Suite F in San Rafael, California her space is centrally located in Marin County right at the foot of the San Rafael-Richmond Bridge, so you’re coming from San Francisco and the South Bay, or the East Bay north Annie’s office is easy to find.

I love photographing people—it’s easy to say, but it’s true—the human face is one of the more compelling, interesting and intruiging subjects to photograph and one I never tire of. My goal is to connect with my subjects to capture their essence in the moment whatever that moment may offer. My mother was a portrait painter for over seventy years and growing up in that milieu I learned, by osmosis, the art of seeing and working with people in a portrait environment.

Whether you’re comfortable in front of a camera or on the shy side I will work with you to bring out your best. I want our time together to be as enjoyable as possible.

I hope you can join me on this special day.

Wether you’re in need of a new professional LinkedIn photo, a great portrait for a dating profile, or just want a new photo of yourself, I invite you to schedule a portrait session.

The cost is a mere $125 for a 20-30 minute session that will yield one to three final images. Once we’re done you’ll receive your high-resolution photos (around 6000×4000 pixels) as a web link that will be email or texted to you 5-7 days later.

For the most part, the set up will feature one main light on you, the subject, in front of a neutral gray background lit by colored background light from below, that can be changed to accentuate the look of you and your outfit. If you want something simpler, pure black and pure white backgrounds will be available.

Regarding the image details, my approach to post-production is to finesse the final images to bring out the best in the subject. I don’t, however, remove all blemishes, wrinkles, etc. in favor a keep-it-real approach. I prefer for my portraits to look authentic versus an overly clean, sanitized look that can tend to look artificial.
